Poland’s Civic Coalition (KO) continues to lead as the largest political group in the country, but a recent poll indicates that Prime Minister Donald Tusk may face difficulties in securing a majority if elections were to be held presently. The survey shows KO garnering 27.3% support, a slight decline from the previous 28.7%. Meanwhile, Law and Justice (PiS) experienced a rise in support, gaining 2.8 percentage points to reach 20.6%, and Confederation also saw an increase, climbing to 14.1%.
The poll also provides insights into the standings of other political entities, with the Confederation of the Polish Crown receiving 8.4%, the Left obtaining 7.1%, and Development Plus capturing 6.5% of the support. Notably, both Poland 2050 and the Polish People’s Party (PSL), which are part of the current governing coalition, have fallen below the electoral threshold, signaling possible challenges for the existing ruling camp.
Should these results translate into actual seats, KO and the Left would collectively secure around 198 seats, falling 33 seats short of the 231 needed for a parliamentary majority. On the right, a potential coalition comprising PiS, Confederation, and Development Plus would also not reach the majority, obtaining 224 seats. However, the inclusion of the Confederation of the Polish Crown would boost the right-wing bloc to an estimated 262 seats, suggesting a possible path to governance for this coalition.
It’s important to note that the poll was conducted prior to recent developments involving Polish Olympic Committee president Radosław Piesiewicz and his ownership of an expensive Patek Philippe watch. Therefore, any political ramifications stemming from this controversy are not reflected in the current poll results.
