Efforts to resolve internal disputes within Poland’s main opposition party, Law and Justice (PiS), hit a stalemate as recent talks between party leader Jarosław Kaczyński and former Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki concluded without significant progress. The meeting aimed to address ongoing divisions but failed to produce a conclusive outcome.
In an attempt to bridge the gap, PiS Member of the European Parliament, Piotr Müller, revealed that the party had put forward 21 compromise proposals. These were designed to address the rift and rebuild trust within the party. Müller emphasized that these proposals were a reflection of the party’s goodwill and dedication to reinforcing the centre-right political faction.
Müller also defended the establishment of the Rozwój Plus association, asserting that its creation was a strategic move to bolster support for the centre-right and draw in new voters. Concerns regarding the association’s funding had been addressed through legal opinions, he noted.
Despite expressing a readiness to find common ground, Müller dismissed the notion of signing loyalty pledges or declarations, which he deemed humiliating. He asserted that PiS should focus on being a broad political movement, prioritizing policy and electoral success over internal strife.
