Google AI Differently Sources Turkish and English, Splitting AI Visibility Markets

Must Read

New findings from Citelens, a Turkish company specializing in artificial intelligence, reveal that Google’s AI Overviews utilize a diverse set of sources when tackling identical business queries in Turkish versus English. This underscores the necessity for brands to develop language-specific AI visibility strategies. The research scrutinized 444 business-related questions posed in both languages and compared the sources referenced by Google’s AI in its responses. The data indicated a mere 22% overlap in cited domains between the two languages, suggesting that a brand’s visibility in one language does not guarantee the same in another.

The study also demonstrated that AI Overviews were generated for 96% of English queries, while Turkish queries received AI responses 94% of the time. Despite the minimal difference in response rates, the selection of sources by AI systems varied significantly based on language and market context. This variation indicates that businesses aiming to reach the Turkish audience cannot solely depend on their English-language digital presence to achieve visibility in Turkish AI outcomes. Instead, regional authority sources, localized content, and language-specific optimization are becoming crucial as AI platforms decide which information to feature.

Citelens emphasizes that brands must tackle Generative Engine Optimization (GEO) distinctively for each language and market. Tracking AI visibility in Turkey necessitates measuring performance directly within Turkish search environments rather than relying on English results as a baseline. The research methodology employed by the company involved comparing AI-generated answers using varying country and language settings and analyzing source domains from numerous queries.

The study’s conclusions highlight a growing trend where AI visibility is increasingly a localized issue, requiring businesses to craft tailored strategies to enhance their presence across different languages and regions. As AI platforms become more pivotal in determining the information presented to users, the importance of a customized approach to optimizing content for specific languages and markets cannot be overstated.
