Ukraine, Russia, and US Set for Peace Talks in Abu Dhabi This November

Must Read

Ukraine, Russia, and the United States have agreed to engage in trilateral peace talks set to take place in Abu Dhabi during the first half of November, according to an announcement by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. This development raises hopes for renewed diplomatic efforts aimed at resolving the ongoing conflict between Ukraine and Russia.

Zelenskyy stated that the initial phase of negotiations would occur at a technical level, with the potential for a later meeting among the leaders of the involved countries. The success of these talks hinges on Moscow’s willingness to actively participate, he emphasized. The announcement follows discussions between Zelenskyy and U.S. envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, who had recently met with Russian President Vladimir Putin in St. Petersburg. The Kremlin has confirmed that these talks are being arranged for early November in the United Arab Emirates.

During his announcement, Zelenskyy highlighted that any prospective peace agreement must incorporate robust security guarantees for Ukraine, alongside adequate funding to support its armed forces over the next decade. He also urged for the inclusion of European nations in the negotiation process.

This planned meeting in Abu Dhabi comes after several months of stalled diplomatic initiatives to end the war in Ukraine. Past negotiations have encountered significant challenges, particularly concerning territorial disputes, security arrangements, and terms for a potential ceasefire.

In the meantime, President Zelenskyy noted ongoing restrictions on Ukraine’s access to Starlink and Starshield communications systems, despite previous assurances that services had been restored. This issue adds to the complexities facing Ukraine as it seeks to advance diplomatic solutions.

While the scheduled talks in Abu Dhabi present a new opportunity for dialogue, substantial differences between Kyiv and Moscow remain unresolved, posing a challenge to achieving a lasting peace agreement.
