This discussion is anticipated to occur on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly as Ukraine ramps up its offensive against Russia’s energy sector.
Recent tensions have escalated after Ukrainian forces conducted a significant strike over the weekend targeting the Moscow region, which reportedly resulted in the destruction of a major oil refinery and the death of three people. Trump has expressed concerns that such attacks on Russian refineries are exacerbating global energy shortages and has reiterated his call for an end to the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine.
In response, Zelenskyy has stated that negotiations are underway to explore proposals aimed at de-escalating the situation.
