India is actively seeking to play a more substantial role in efforts to resolve the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine, according to External Affairs Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar. As New Delhi enhances its diplomatic engagement with both Moscow and Kyiv, Jaishankar emphasized India’s belief that dialogue and diplomacy are key to resolving the conflict.
Jaishankar highlighted that India has progressed from merely advocating for negotiations to actively holding discussions with both parties involved in the conflict. In addition to diplomatic talks, India is considering ways to contribute to initiatives aimed at ensuring the safety of shipping in the Black Sea and facilitating grain and energy exports. These efforts also include exploring potential measures to prevent further attacks in the region.
In pursuit of these goals, Jaishankar has engaged in direct talks with Ukrainian officials. Meanwhile, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi maintains close diplomatic ties with Russian President Vladimir Putin, who visited New Delhi in September for discussions.
These developments occur amid ongoing efforts to restart peace negotiations between Russia and Ukraine. Discussions in Kyiv include the possibility of initiating another round of talks to address the conflict.
