Spin is King: Maharaj’s Masterclass Floors Aussies

Must Read

Spin proved to be king at Cazaly’s Stadium, and Keshav Maharaj wore the crown, delivering a masterclass to lead South Africa to a 98-run victory over Australia. His maiden five-wicket haul (5-33) left the Australian chase in tatters.

The match, which also saw Australian part-timer Travis Head take four wickets, was ultimately decided by Maharaj’s superior skill. After Australia reached 0-60 chasing 297, Maharaj was brought on and completely changed the game, triggering a collapse of 6-29.

South Africa’s total of 8-296 was a result of a disciplined team batting effort. Aiden Markram (82) and Temba Bavuma (65) were the main contributors, setting a target that proved to be well out of Australia’s reach once the spinners came into play.

Despite a powerful 88 from captain Mitch Marsh, the Australian innings lacked substance. The middle order was completely bamboozled by Maharaj, leading to a final total of 198 and a comprehensive win for the Proteas.
